Horrible things. The Blade will be running tonight, you're more than welcome to take it for a spin if you want some proper four cyclinder fun.

I,ve rode both standard(mine)and modded(chris,s).I only went for a short spin on chris,s,but yes i could tell the difference right away. The bike just seemed easier to ride.I would love to try it out at a trackday(anychance? )and see how it fairs against mine.Which by the way.i thought was great.I love modded bikes,be it streetfighters or whatever. They stand out from the norm and usually perform better than standard, but not always. How many of you go to a meet or show and drool over the specials? Now if money wasnt an issue,id quite happily spend shit loads on modding my bike(or bikes!).
Must admit, riding 600,s are a scream. Its liking riding a 2 stroke after coming of the S.But like my mate says, its bloody hard work!

Didn't one of the rags recently do a blind comparitive test of a 600RR and an older 600FS and everyone of them said they prefered the older FS ????

Mind you they were a bunch of tossers some of them thought they were on twins ! ( %ankers ! ) and they were all giving it "oh at least a litre" and "about 120mph" actually about 80mph !

They do look nice ( the RR ) but for the track I think I'd like a nice SP1/2 or a RSV, not that I could exploit either properly !

I'm pining for the S at the moment. She's away having a 24,000 mile service and some new bits fitted.

Thought about changing her for something newer, quite fancied a boxer cup but can't touch the ground :( . Realised the foolishness of these thoughts and decided to keep the old girl as she's mint (and in much better condition than I am).

Already have carbon air intake; remus exhaust; K&N filter.

Currently having fitted: BB chip (will it make a difference?); braided hoses; carbon hugger; wide back wheel; heated grips; electrical socket to battery; clear lenses all round.

Awaiting delivery of: new black seat (to match my other leathers - it's a girl thing :!: ); belly pan and paint.

Appointment with Maxton engineering on 31st Aug to fit new front and rear suspension to suit my weight and riding style  .

oh and a personal reg.

Now contemplating transfers to modify paint work. Perhaps in silver as main colour is black.

I enqiured about the old style Boxercup chequer transfers that fit to the front fairing. £56 per side. A bit steep I thought for three squares of sticky back plastic.

The BB chip will make a big difference, like holes in your pistons :(

As the Captain says, if you've got the Remus race pipe ( 2 up pipes and no "box") watch out for lean running. I had mine dynoed with the BBpower chip/ Remus combination it ran dangerously lean and killed the top end (not that the s is over endowed in that dept. to begin with).

Get it dynoed to make sure it's ok. :)

I feel a K12 regulator coming on............. 8)

Remus is the road pipe, no box, sounds good (even though its legal) and runs fine on the standard chip. Alan Jefferies are fitting the new chip and the other stuff and setting it up for me, so hopefully it should be ok

Perhaps one of you technically minded chaps could explain how the chip changes the fuelling. I understand that they have different settings within the chip?

What does the K12 regulator do?

God wasn't it all easier when there were just carbs and points and stuff.

The fuel regulator adds more fuel across the whole throttle range, which if memory serves me right is about 8% more. Its a cheap solution to go with your other mods like the induct/k&N and exhausts.A chip has a map which is taylor made for your setup. It can add or take away fuel so that the mixture is at its best across the whole throttle range. The best thing to get would be a power commander by dynojet. This can be finley adjusted for your personal setup by time on a dyno.Sanjose BMW in the states do one for the S.Malc on this board had a major engine failure possibly being related to a bbp power chip giving up the ghost.I,m sure he will be along to add a his 2p worth.

I don't think Malc was the only one either. Unless Jeffries have a dyno they wont be able to set the fuelling correctly, and even if they have the BBP chip might not have the perfect map for your set up.

Thanks,

That makes sense. I'm phoning Jefferies in the morning to see how they are getting on. Will ask how they are setting up the mapping and see if they have a dyno.

Since having the remus (road not race pipe) on the bike, eighteen months or so, I've had an occasional pop and bang when filtering etc. On long runs the engine has run smoothly. There is nothing to suggest that it might be running hot (would this be likely if it was running lean?), no excessive blueing, rather the opposite I think, with the tendency to be a little sooty around the pipes. It has used a little more fuel when riding progressively, but about the same when touring.

The midrange has felt more responsive but as I ride mostly around the 5,000 to 6,000 rpm range its difficult to comment on the top end.

The new belly pan arrived today so I'm off to my workshop to give it another coat of paint.

Please keep the advice rolling in. :)
Clare.

wouldn't worry too much about popping, my late 2002 bike pops and farts all the time and once you start to rock the throttle on the over-run it pop and bangs quite nicely to the shock of ol' people and boy racers

poppng could either be a retarded ignition (one of my classic bikes had a sloppy ignition system and it was retarding by about 40 degrees, used to bang really bad on the over-run, however it sheared itself and that was the end of that game), overly rich mixture resulting in un-burnt fuel making it into the exhaust, or a poor combustion burn/valve over-lap resulting once again in un-burnt fuel making an escape to freedom only to be incinerated in a rather pleasing "pop" before it succeeds
