Can you describe these please? What/which are these and what purpose? What gain did they offer? They are something I have not heard of.

OK I was being a bit dense. I get it now. Well, as say, I've only done 600 miles in total so far and I do nail it a bit so I'll have to see what my latest tankfull does. I'm going for a cruise down the D940 from Calais at the end of September, I'll see what it does there. I won't be ripping it up so much. To be honest, it's only a toy so the mpg doesn't bother me too much, 35mpg is fine. I'm just interested.

Oyster, I meant fuel pressure regulator, not injectors. My mistake, I rushed that entry. The regulator along with other mods including a Dyno have given my bike about another 10-12bhp over standard and some instant low down stomp. It was done by the former owner, not myself so I can't be more specific. I am just assuming that this is part of why I tend to get through fuel a bit sooner than the standard bikes. I'll have a search on here and see if I can find the actual benefits of the mod.

This is all the performance based stuff that mine has had...

• Lennies induct (carbon fibre high-flow air intake, imported from Australia)
• SJ filter (San Jose BMW air filter imported from the USA – a far more efficient K&N conversion than the standard K&N)
• Remus Y-piece (replaces catalytic converter)
• Laser road legal exhaust with removable baffles
• R1200RS fuel pressure regulator (higher fuel pressure)
• 9 degree advance cam sprockets (better mid-range without any apparent loss at the top end)
• R1200 LH cam chain tensioner (makes the engine far smoother and quieter at startup and when idling)
• Power Commander III USB with wide-band lambda sensor


I do like the fact that it has all this stuff but still has the appearance of a standard bike.

Ah the sneaky fuel regulator mod! I had a regulator ready to fit, but opted for the Power Commander as it is so much more versatile. The Dutch racing team (?) and others in Australia strongly advised against that mod (sorry). It seems it just delivers too much fuel, which is better than too little, but fuel expensive. Your PC, if it has been set up on a rolling road/computer will compensate for the richness of the fuel regulator. I keep saying it, the Power Commander when carefully tuned in is great and gives that peace of mind.

That probably follows on from the BoxerCup series. The teams ALL wanted (and in the early days tried to get away with it) to use the K1200RS/R1200GS regulator. BMW had to specifically exclude it and the bikes were regularly checked to make sure that no-one was getting an unfair advantage by using one.

Don't know why they bothered really :headbang:

New to this forum business so apologies if I do it wrong.

Recently bought V plate 1100s (1999). Love the bike but fuel light comes on about 100 from full. I swear the first couple of tanks were 120-125. Put bike back into Vines & they confirmed lambda sensor fault & apparently fixed it. This last tank has given me 94! She dosn't seem to idle smoothly, and going down thru gears this morning with my son on the back the engine quit & ended up locking the back wheel when clutch went back in. I would have thought that I should get 40-45 mpg especially as I'm no scratcher, but I.m only getting about 30. I'd welcome any opinions.

Hi
I would start by giving the bike a good service if it hasnt had one recently.
New plugs,air filter(blocked and dirty air filters kill engine performance and MPG)valve clearances and throttle body sync.Do a search in tech section on how to carry out procedures.
Maybe be worth checking the clips where the fuel hoses (rubber)connect to the plastic pipes which feed the pressure regulater.They are located on the right hand side just above the throttle body.If they were leaking you would have a strong smell of petrol,which you havent mentioned.Best to check all the same.MPG can vary due to lots of variables,but the shit running means summats up.

Forgot to add.Maybe the dealer didnt sort out the fault codes when they replaced the lamba sensor.The ecu may have defaulted to a rich mixture map.

Bikes going back into the dealers next Monday. I don't think the lamda sensor was changed - they just said the circuit wasn't working. It did seam better for a day, but has definately reverted. I shal peruse the forum for info on service proceedures. Are the CD workshop manuals as advertised on e-bay any good?

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a lamba and why would you want to sense it?


My guesses so far include:

I had my power commander set up carefully earlier this year which gave a pretty good fuel mix, just slightly on the rich side. After my recent fun with water/flora/stuff in the tank/fuel filter/injectors and the subsequent attentive clean up of those parts, my bike is now running decidedly rich. Fuel consumption has suffered noticably and flaming exhaust flashes on spirited riding according to those behind me. Now the system is flowing as it should, unrestricted, it has got too rich. So the pc, ecu + lambda cant compensate.
Back to the rolling road again soon, another expensive remap.
