Pilvez, I have not done this job myself.... but are you sure the old circlip is not there. If it's gone then you may have a problem.... If it;s in bits inside the trany tunnel.
You may find it's still in the correct place and that is why the new one won't take hold.
Either way I hope you get it sorted... keep us all posted.
Good luck
Stuart

Sorted I think.
Since I bought the bike the gaiter has always been disconnected from the swingarm (I assume the previous owner gave up with the circlip problem). I removed the swingarm to sort it out and to replace the pivot bearings. There was no sign of the old circlip.
I brought a used one from Motorworks. Put the gaiter into the swingarm then could not get the circlip inside the gaiter without the ends overlapping I'm sure the circlip was too big (was a larger one used on the older 1100 bikes?)
Anyway I cut an inch off it and it has gone in no problem.
Thanks for replys.

I have just received a new circlip wire from SBW in Hertford. Excellent service considering it was only a £1.40 item.
Would have bought it from my local dealer, but you're lucky if they answer the phone on sales never mind parts and I always end up feeling like a pain in the A because I'm not spending a fortune on a bike or servicing.
Having received it I can confirm that the radius is about 2mm less than the secondhand one I got and has a larger gap. It would definately have been easier to get in. So I assume the one I have fitted is from an older 1100.
