I will bear it in mind, I have to be careful what I spend on the beemer as I have a proper money sponge, a GT750(kettle) which gets the bulk of my spare readies and now and again I treat the wife LOL.
I'd like to thank all that have responded to both my questions, I feel much better about the vibes and the whine, forum is excellent there is so much info on it.

...so...vibes around 4100-4300 RPM...
...I changed the filter (to a K&N), changed the induct (into the overpriced big CF thing), run on Shell-V-Power, (I think it is called Optimax in Britain), had a thorough throttle-body-balancing job done. The cat. is gone, and 'we' have an open exhaust..., also with some mods...
...costs a few ; but the 'give-you-the-dead-hands-vibes' are gone...!

Finally Ditched the Cat
After a great ride to those nice people at Motorworks and a bacon butty at Sids Cafe Holmfirth, I finally have the De-Cat pipe, it will be fitted this week and hopefully the vibration will lessen, I have been meaning to get one for months after all the advice from Boxertrix, but sadly my Kettle seized up and after a hefty bill and 5 months to rebuild just never got round to it.

Hi Keith,
Iv'e got a standard 11S with the cat still on. It was a bit vibey but after a recent valve check, end float adjustment and throttle body balance its running as smooth as silk. I came back from Holy Island yesterday down the A1 and the bike felt so smooth and responsive in any gear, thanks to the lads at Newsham motorcycles in my home town who did a great job. Their not BMW just a bloody good set of mechanics, the guy who did the job has an 11S too which I think helps and at only £30 its not worth my while buying a twinmax and attempting to do it myself.
Let us know if the Y piece helps and could you tell me what do you do with the probe!? do you remove it or fit it to the new pipe?

Keith, a word of warning - don't expect the Y-piece to go on particularly easily.....IMO it's a pile of cr*p, although I persevered with mine, also from Motorworks.
You'll probably have to shorten the mounting bar so that it fits between the frame rails and you'll also need to loosen the header pipes at the engine end to give enough movement for things to line up, which they won't want to do. Since the header bolts often sieze/shear it's a good idea to start soaking them in penetrating fluid a couple of days before you do the job.
I've spent a good few hours messing with my Remus Y trying to make it what it should have been as supplied (it's been off the bike twice since I fitted it, for 'adjustment' of some sort). You may not have the same trouble but allow plenty of time.
Oh, you should also buy 4 new bolts to attach the Y-piece to the headers as at least some of the originals will get mangled during removal of the cat. While you're at the dealer getting those (special) bolts you'll also need 2 gaskets for the same joints.

Have the same beast 04 BCR - yes its vibey but now I've done over 10k it is settling down - recent trip to Scotland did 1250miles in a week without a problem, no alterations - bog standard BCR - wonderful - and the differences from the other bikes in the world makes it what it should be - Different!
Keep on riding it does get better and keeps me smiling

Coming up to 38k, never had a real problem with vibes. Bike is bog stock S. Has a rough patch around 4k.
I actually find the vibes remind me I'm riding a bike with an engine not an electric motor - unlike some fours I've ridden...
