It seems the best results are definately from clearing the restrictive in/outlets, including a K&N, or better still the SJ powerfilter (I'M STILL LOOKING FOR ONE!). but what else? Chip or regulator? Here (after suspension and new pads) endeth the cost effective mods.
Yep, my engine didn't eat its pistons by running too lean. Fuel consumption (if you care) is reduced.
Very little that you can do to a boxer engine can be considered cost effective, but different people draw the line at different points.
Chips depend on exhaust/induct spec, the Vanderlinde chip does a good job matching to their exhaust but the exhaust is heavy and finish can degrade quickly if not cared for. Having changed to the Arrows system and fitted the SJ filter over the winter I've fitted the PCIII but awaiting set-up so no results yet.

have got power commander fitted & set up for zach y piece and open cans - can't say that there's monster gains because it was fuelling okay before (with a bb chip stage 3). Power commander has really sorted the bottom end though. A/f ratio is now spot on throughout load/rpm range. Have just put flowed heads on - yippee midrange is subjective result before it goes back on dyno & power commander properly set up for mods.
FWIW power commander probably offers best advantages to bikes which already suffer from bad running in mid-range. BB chip on stage 3 works well for open exhaust (and has extra rpm limit)- but there seems to be a lot of variety between the the effect that the same mods have on different bikes.

Bike back on dyno
I have had the bike put back on dynojet machine.
I have lost 1 brake horse and power throughout the revs.
Just wasn't picking up quick.
changed fuel pressure regulator, straight back over.
fuel pressure regulator is a pain to change if you got ABS.
Having think about the fuel pressure regulator and what it did to the bike.
I think If it had just been pressure regulator, I change
I would have got a better result but added the chip already installed.
I think that there was too much fuel getting through.
The changes I have made to my bike.
O2 sensor disconnected at the exhaust.
Remus 2 in2 system.
My own airbox modification, which is on the forun as airbox modification.
Which works well, which will save you money .
BBPower chip.
K&N filter.
Before these modifications, the bike's maximum power 87.14
now up to 94.87, which isn't a massive amount, but it's better than it was
but it is making 13 brake horse in midrange, which is where you want it.
