Some grades of stainless are OK to to use in shear for disc bolts, although I don't like set screws (which are favoured by HD and Buell). If you're worried by hydrogen embrittlement in plated bolts (I've had heads pop off when torqued correctly - not on disc bolts I hasten to add) then use 12.9 high tensile bolts and paint the heads. For road bikes, I tend to reuse the original bolts if they clean up ok, despite their relatively low torque values, the clamping force which holds the disc in place is enormous.

Oh dear
What turned out to be a simple tyre change has woken my OCD for checking cleaning and servicing now it’s a complete strip down

Ohllins off and at Tillet suspension for full refurb my guess they have never been done since so new new bolts all the way round and Anything that looks suspect is going to be done

Whilst in the strip down any further reconditions from the site

Cheers rich
