Hi,
Coming home from work last night about a steady 50 in 4th gear I hit a manhole cover ( only a small one ) when Suddenly there is a horrible noise and no drive.
Coast to side of road to checkout. Then wait for recovery.
With bike in neutral and clutch out it sounts like a bucket of spanners with clutch in noise dies down. With my limited knowledge it sounds like clutch splines and or gearbox input shaft ?
Bike is a 99 with 34k miles and no symptoms at all before failiure.
Any advice on likely cost or any tips for a good (mean cheap) mechanic in Essex or London areas / diy feasability gratefully recieved.
Cheers
Alan

As i've said loads of times before, give Jap & German a go. They are in London SE1. Friendly efficient and not too expensive.....nowhere near BMW main stealer prices!

Take a photo of the manhole cover. If it is more than 25mm below the normal road surface level you may be able to claim from the council.
Having said that, I have a back injury as a result of a sunken manhole, and I lost my case in court as I couldnt prove that the council's inspections were sub standard.
Worth a try though, especially if you have legal expenses insurance.
