Bling!!

Well, I've managed to get them fitted. The ballasts ended up hanging off the fairing bracket where the horn sits. On reflection of some old posts it seems like I'm not the first. The lights did not have particularly long leads, the high beam especially, so mounting choices are limited. As I have ABS they are even more limited!
I tried the tops of the relay boxes but they are a bit unsteady and mostly blocked by the bulge of the fairing panel once in place. Up against the two horizontal tubes of the fairing panel near the tank gets them catching the fork legs. I didn't want to hang them under the front under the lamps as this blocks the airstream through the oil cooler..... I'm sure many of you have been there? With two ballasts it's even worse, believe me.
Anyway, I settled on that position, moved the horn so it hung off the fairing frame top mount - the next hole up - and thought the brake line might rub on the dip ballast so tie-wrapped the line to the fork leg a few inches up from the junction.
Finally been out to test them tonight and I'm impressed. However, I have to say that the two light kit was certainly not a waste of money. The dip beam is good, but the throw is still not that far. The high beam really does help. I've managed to make progress down some open B roads tonight and sanity stopped me finding out if I could outrun high beam on some nice unlit duals. I think the strapped up brake line or the added 'highup' weight has affected the steering though 'cos something felt not quite right. Got to unstrap the brake line and do some more tests.

This was the hids4u kit (£220 delivered) and fitted fine. I had to run a mini file around the dip beam slot as the lamp had a slight touch on the inner corners of the slot, but enough to stop it sliding in easily . It was only a light filing down and managed to get it in fine afterwards.
In terms of length etc. the lamps went in fine, nothing touching at the front nor poking too far out the back and the spring retainers worked ok too.
