Oil / Fluid leak

Can anyone advise please?
I have some sort of leak from the gaitor which leads / attaches to the rear wheel. Not being mechanically minded, Id appreciate it if anyone knows what the likely cause may be or indeed if its a common problem.
My main concern is that when Jeffires fitted the wrong torque arm (too long), it may have done some damage to the drive or seals etc. I kicked off with them because the bike was sat too low and "clunking" oiver even small bumps. they said they checked it out when they put the correct torque arm on, but I dont trust the buggers.
Would appreciate any help you can offer.

Is that a regular failure on these bikes? I was thinking that when they put it so far out of alignment with the long torque arm, they may have caused this. Nike has only done 11k miles

Dont know if the longer arm would have caused it to leak.I do know that if the rear diff is running a strange angle to the paralever then you will get U/J shaft trouble.
Quite a common problem with them seeping oil,
Dont know if its lack of use,which rubber oil seals dont like.Or a crap batch of seals.
As i said no biggie to change.

Hi there

I bought my bike in July and it has a weeping rear seal.

I was worried about it so I took the front Tie wrap off and had a look.

There was just the faintest smearing of oil on the inside of the gaiter, I checked the final drive and gearbox oil levels and they were fine.
Put the gaiter on with a smear of Hylomar and I'll deal with it when she's off the road in the winter.

PB,

I did the same as Yogi Bear. Remember a small amount of hot oil goes a long way.

Mines a 2002 BCR with 9000 miles. :oops: :oops: :oops:

Re your leaky rear ends, do you think this could be exacerbated by using fully synth oil?

Fully synth will find a way past a seal faster than the original treacle.You need to see mobil 1 gearbox synth to appreciate how thin it is.
Thats why i,m changing a gearbox input seal on mr sheenes bike during this week.
Some bright spark told him to(and did it for him)change his gearbox oil to fully synth. :lol:
Didnt leak before he did it.
I,m sure most seals go before they are due to lack of use.Bikes sat in garages not been turned over for 8 months of the year.
