Fuel supply?

Postby hooperman » Fri Aug 24, 2018 7:22 am

The centre of the clutch plate stripped on my R1100S. So I remove the rear part of the frame, then gear-box and replaced the plate with another, with a deeper bush, and put it all back. I did not disturb anything at the front of the bike apart from removing the tank and side panels. However now that everything is back in place, the bike won't start. After a few attempts I replaced the fuel, since it was a few months old and I have heard of issue s relating to stale fuel. Both plugs are sparking. I can hear the fuel pump working for a few seconds each time I turn the key, but it does not even fire. I believe the plugs got wet when I first tried to start it, but not now. So this seems to be a fuel supply issue. If it was due to a blockage in one injector then at least the other site would fire. I will be grateful for any ideas.

Not sure of the symptoms but could you have mixed up the feed and return petrol lines when you replaced the petrol tank ?

Take off the injectors and see if they are squirting when you turn it over? I seem to remember when I replaced my clutch on an 1100gs that engine had to be set so the rh cylinder was at tdc on its compression stroke and the fly wheel locked with special tool before any parts were removed replaced. I may be talking bollox but the firing order may be out of kilter.
