Mini foot pump spare parts ?

Help! I bought one of those mini foot pumps from Hein Gericke in May '03. Didn't get round to using it until I got a puncture in France June '04 and to found it to be useless, letting more out than it put in :x I ended up using 8 of those CO2 canisters.

Anyway, I've just tried to figure out why it doesn't work and it would appear that the bit [technical name please] that clamps to the tyre valve doesn't actually grip at all and this is where the air is escaping. Spoke to HG who tell me I'm out of my 2 year warranty period... typical :roll:

As that bit is threaded and just screws into a female fitting on the pipe does anyone know if/where I can pick up that part as a spare?

As with most of these things these days....I think they are disposable.
Without seeing the unit it's hard to say....but if they are semi quality fittings you might find them at a garage supplies specialist.

I don't think the word 'quality' applies but at around £20 they're hardly what I would call disposable.

I looked at using the one from my normal pump but it's a crimp type fitting rather than threaded :roll:

Flippin Ech Adam, you must have had the tyre at 90000psi by then. I use 1 maybe 2 then ride to the nearest garage. I also carry a small 9" bike pump that pumps in both directions to supplement the canisters and has a pressure guage on the side - cost me about £10.

Jason, I got through the day by leaving the nail in place and using airlines at every garage that had one. The next morning the tyre had no pressure at all in it (kept it's shape though) and with my ham fisted attempts it took 8 before there was enough pressure to ride to the next garage.

I'll probably end up with a hand pump just a bit annoying that I can't replace a simple piece to make this one work.

This is the offending item.

I would say if you want it easy....just buy another
if you want it hard.....
measure the male threaded section diameter and find out the pitch of thread.Then search on here(or similar) to see what you come up with!

Buy a replacement crimp type then tell me the outside diameter of the hose and I will send you one of the crimps they are called O clips and are really easy to crimp up with a pair of side cutters or pincers.

Adam,
Buy another from HG swap the defective part then return it as faulty and get your money back. Sure as h*ll they have a lot more of of it than you.

Thanks for the offer Bob but a trip to Halfords solved the problem :D

£2.50 buys a replacement piece c/w jubilee clip, cut end off pipe, insert new valve and tighten. Works a treat now, which hopefully means I won't get a puncture... (he said tempting fate).
