Removal of EVO ABS

Ok, I've got to remove the system as the bikes my only means of transport, I've seen somewhere that instead of the pipes heading to the ABS module, shorting pipes are used at the union on the subframe and the unions by the headstock.

Any one done this mod? also any ideas on pipe union sizes? rears look to be M10x1mm while the fronts are something I can not quite distinguise without taking the bodywork off before I've even got it to my friendly local garage to do the work.

aiy, been over there and searched the forum, nothing definate and lots of people argueing about the benefits and otherwise of doing such a modification.

For fear of starting another Anti-ABS ~ Pro-ABS discussion over there I thought I'd try here!

all I can tell from the blurb at present is that the EVO can not be removed totally as it's needed for the speedo signal from the rear wheel ABS sensor

all I can tell from the blurb at present is that the EVO can not be removed totally as it's needed for the speedo signal from the rear wheel ABS sensor

it's my understanding that "EVO" refers simply to the larger diameter discs (320mm) and not to the servo's or anything.

The ABS speed sensor WILL need to be retained - otherwise I"m sure the box will whimper.

at the front I'd advise buying a proper "race-style" 2-lines setup (from Hel or Goodridge). The U-shaped union on the non-abs bikes is a "Kludge" they use to limit production costs (ie so they don't need to have 2 different setups for the brake lines) and it fucks up the pressure in the lines because air gets trapped there very easily. I can't bleed my brakes (on the Rockster) properly without taking the tank off!!!!

ah, that's interesting, just for the moment to keep it going until the summer I'm going to make up some U-pipes to bypass the system, then in the summer I'm going to take the girl off the road and fit braided pipes then

I'll have the side boywork off this afternoon and hopefully get as much air out while doing the change-over, just got to decide how to seal the ABS pipes to keep the last remnants of fluid in and dirt out double polly bagged, zipped tied and cloth backs over the top is what we do for storage on aircraft but they don't get used as such

I buggered my front ABS sensor a while ago and removed it - the brakes still work fine with no other problems other than they're old and knackered. I've also had my speedo sensor fail (the wire chaffed through) again with no deriment/effect to the brakes - they aren't EVO though if that makes a difference

I've finally fixed it!!!! no need to remove it, I found the poxy cause, I've posted it up in the failure cause thread below this one
