Quick fix for too loud Lazer can
I'm booked for a couple of sessions at Donnington next weekend with my 11S. Its actually a Kawasaki thing with my brother, but you can bring any bike. But, there's always a but... The noise limit is 98dB and I've just got back from Cadwell having had my bike checked at 102dB. (They have a 105 limit at Cadwell).
So my question is: Considering that my bike has the straight-through Lazer cans, de-cat and Lennies etc, is there anything quick and easy that I can do to quieten it down temporarily?
I don't want to muck about too much for what will probably be just a few laps under supervision.

Why do cheap bikes never end up that way?
Donnington use a 98dB drive by test, whereas the Cadwell 105dB is measured a set distance and angle from the exhaust.
My feeling is you will be OK, seeing as you passed the Cadwell test, your bike will not be ridiculously loud. Being a twin as well, it will not be revving ridiculously highly when you past the test station.
I can understand you wish to take precautions though.
Are your pipes designed to take dB Killers? Perhaps you can borrow or buy some?

As indicated by herb:
http://www.donington-park.co.uk/about-d ... trictions/
Use of the circuit is permitted on 365 days per annum with a noise limit not exceeding 98 dBA measured at an on-circuit drive-by test.\
Yes, you should be fine.
If you wanna be super sure, just stick a cat back on the bike instead of the Y piece.
I became paranoid with my (loud) Boxercup the first time at Snetterton, as I noise tested it weeks before the trackday and failed miserably.
Stuck some stuff the day before into the exhaust, started the bike and saw an amazing projectile fly away from the exhaust
At the end I tried not to cheat and it did pay well, bike passed that that. And all the other 5 trackdays it did.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps.
How do dB killers fit? Between the link pipe and the can, or in the end?
The Laser cans I have don't have metal baffles as such; they're straight through with the absorbtion perferated pipework. (Very like original Commando Pea-shooters for those of you old enough to remember) They don't have any screw fittings, so aren't repackable.
They soud good though!

A quick google throws up this.

It looks like you need to drill the outlet to take them with a 4mm hole, which should be quite discreet, but I would not want to do it.
On a drive buy test, the induction adds a lot of noise as well as the exhaust. I guess the easiest way might be to ensure your inlet is standard, with standard filter. That will reduce the induction noise a little.
Then fit the cat pipe if you still have it which should help quieten the exhaust.

I didn't think there was a specific noise level for an MOT?
I've had MOTs done on both the 1100S's I've owned which both had Laser cans and a y-piece (and chips) and never had any issues. Is yours the road system or a race system?

The system doesn't have anything marked as far as legality is concerned. But you can see straight through it.
I definitely don't want to drill holes anywhere. If there's something that just "shoves in" I'd be willing.
Good point about the induction noise. It is quite a lot louder with the Lennies and SJ filter.
I guess I'll turn up and see what happens. They can only black flag me, I suppose. I've two sessions. If I can't do the second one, I'll pass it to my brother.
Thanks for the help

Nah. You have to fix them somehow.
I tried to drill the original laser cans to insert an (extra) dbkiller. Pretty hard.
Have you tried going to any racetrack to get your bike noise tested?
I'm pretty sure you will pass the 98db drive by.

I have a feeling Snetterton has a 102db limit during the actual noise testing and there's constant monitoring of the 98db drive-by limit going on during the day.

I was noise checked at Cadwell at the weekend for a California Superbike School. Thats where I got my 102dB figure from, and what prompted my question. It wasn't a drive-by though, so I was trying to draw conclusions from the info I did have.
Met2: If Snetterton runs 102 and 98 I might have a chance. Although I realise that theres all sorts of other variables.
I'll suck it and see.
Ta, Mark

I'm at Brands Hatch on Friday and they've got a 101 and 92 limit. I'm a bit worried but I've done a day there before and passed fine so as long as the bike is nice and warm (which apparently makes a difference) fingers crossed I'll pass.
