Exhaust de-cat R1200s

Postby mole2000 » Sun Jun 08, 2014 9:01 am

Has anyone removed the catalitic converter from the standard exhaust system on a 12s? As in just the contents, leaving the exhaust with the looks of the standard exhaust with a void where the cat contents were!!
If so was there any benefits?
My bike has the Remus silencer, so was wondering best way to get better power/sound.
1974 silver smoke R90/s had from new!!

Someone over on Pelican tried this if you search. I don't think the results were satisfactory and it also requires a degree of skill to re weld the exhaust.

With the replacement front pipes, the diameter is changed to compensate for not having a cat and to give the engine characteristics they are looking for.

Both Roloo and Eenybear removed them on the Pelican sight.
Roloo removed just the guts, which was not easy , and Eeny cut out the cat and installed a new replacement part.

Like Herb said........do a Pelican search.

Cheers

Hi Mole
I decanted my exhaust. Its not a difficult job if you can weld. The benefits however are insignificant. Mine sounded the same as before. Even after gutting the silencer it sounds better under acceleration, but pretty standard at idle.

I'm using a set of HPE headers these days.
Better performance, and better looks.
Have a nice day !

simply removing the cat is not helpful. You need to thing of the the resonance within the whole exhaust system/train. this is kind of a tricky field and a question of long experience and in-depth knowledge. I for example have the HP2S headers on my r12s. The cat has been removed but to my knowledge some tubes have been welded into that easter egg which was formerly the housing of the cat.
