which year best

Postby markw » Sun Feb 23, 2014 9:07 am

Hi all,

My current R1100S has done 127,000 miles and is still running well, but as I use it all year and cover 2,400 miles a month the weather is really taking its toll.

My plan is to buy another "newer" low mileage 1100s to use over the 'summer' months and my old bike for the winter.

My question is ..... regarding gearbox/clutch spline problems. Ive heard that some bikes have had low mileage problems in this area. My 1999 bike is still on the original clutch & gearbox.

so are there any good/ bad years (engine/frame numbers) for this problem ?

thanks, mark

No, they are all good. Condition and service history is important.

No idea on frame no's but searching on here suggests early ones can fail also
Buy a clean early one with over 40k on it and it should be fine!
Some of the later ones have servo brakes which I wouldn't want.
