Hi - I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but it is sort of technical-ish.. Thr previous owner of my 1100s has stuck what looks like a large 'pad' on the front engine cover which looks grim - I'm guessing this was intended to be some sort of protective idea but I've not seen it on any other bikes. Was this a known mod?
Is it ok to remove the cover ( gonna shot blast it I think) without draining the oil first?
Cheers

From the manual it looks to me like a load of work, not difficult but enough work to put me off removing it just to paint it.
I would remove the front wheel. Nitromorse the old paint off. clean it off and finish with fine emery if needed. Then mask off and spray in situ.
a couple of coats with a good primer then topcoat of smotherite silver. Jobs a goodun!!

The oil pours out if you take the front cover off, but that should not deter you.
If you get the cover blasted and painted - make sure the company masks off the inside and mating faces. Also - mask off the bolt landing faces on the cover prior to painting.
