Oil usage while running in...
I don't know how much oil there is between min and max on the sight-glass on BMW's (on Kwaks it's around 1/2 a litre), but my new Rockster has dropped from over max to half way down the sightglass in 300 miles.
to me this seems like HUGE oil usage - or is it normal for a BM to do this?? I was warned that they do use up oil, but I didn't expect this much.
Will it settle down once I've done a few thousand miles?

Spoke to the dealer about the oil;
600m per litre is max usage. Any more than that and they will look at it. Mine does about 1000m per litre (It's only got 2k on the clock so far), which didn't worry them, but I'm keeping an eye on it.
They also said not to use fully synthetic. Not sure why this is? Is it too slippy for the generous tolerences of the boxer engine?

The synthetic's slipperiness will prevent the engine bedding in because it lubricates too well.
Just wack semi-synyth in it until it's got at least 15k+ on the clock.

It gets better...honest! My old R1100R used oil at an almighty rate 'til I saw 18k on the clock. after that it was "normal" consumption of about 1/2 litre every 2k. The R engine just needs a bit more time to get over the sulkies than most! I think they call it "character"
