Free lock?

I may be being a complete numpty here, but TWO magazine is offering a free Krall lock and 1.5m chain if one subscribes for a year. The online subscription is £9.83 a quarter (extra discount for doing it online). The lock and chain plus bag is supposedly worth £69.99 - and a quick internet check shows that this is a fairly realistic price.

I am new biker so I need a lock anyway. I can't really see any downside to this deal.

Offer expires 30 May.

I have only bought the magazine once so far. Anyway, I decided to go for it.

the only downside is that it's 'two' mag. however, the fact that you needed a lock anyway means that you've spent less than you would have on the lock and you get a years worth of average magazine which in effect is free. just remember to cancel it in 11 months :)

Sounds like a good deal to me. You might love the mag, just because some "Landaner" says its crap means nothing. ( Only joking f90x)

Have a look at Aldi see if they still have any chains left I got mine about a month ago. Good quality and only a tenner, I know people will knock this but take a look at them, at that price you can get two.

on another forum, a close personal acquaintance of mine munches his way through "sold secure" 13/14/16mm locks costing £80/90 with hand croppers.
the question is, how much do you value your bike?

AJM, whatever you get its better than nothing, and those Krall lock/chain combos get good results, but as head banger says nothing is impossible.

as a tip however, i did once read that if the chain and lock is of the ground then it makes it very difficult to crop even with a cheaper chain.

ps, no need to avoid me

Thank you. My view is that a lock and chain is a deterrent. Nothing will stop a serious thief and there is a limit to the amount of weight and bulk that can be carried around to deter them.

I value the bike no more than what I have it insured for. It is only a bike and there are plenty around.

In practice, depending on whichever way one looks at it, this is either a free lock or a free magazine.

absolutely, you would have bought the chain/lock anyway so you've lost nothing and gained some reading material for nix. i would have done the same thing in your position regardless of the ribbing i gave the magazine.
