ANPR POlICE Cars. I GOT PULLED
Oh how i laugfhed.
Got to Devils Bridge today and for the second week running, plod has an ALL BIKE stop running, utlilising m,aybe 6 traffic cars, unmarked bike and about a dozen Officers.
I pulled in along with the rest of the cattle and within 2 mins a stumpy little copper comes along, points to my bike and announces im UNINSURED.
Bollocks say I
We can confiscate your bike here and now says he
Bollcks say I, Im insured
No you're not, your bike isnt on the database, either with this reg number or its original
Discussion ensues, they let me go having ruined the day
I get home, log on to insurance site, yep all present and correct.
Im expecting some comeback from them once they decide I'm still uninsured but I'll be buggerred if Im going to help them out. I have my certificate, also a print out of my policy and dates etc etc.
So much for ANPR

You've done well to get home on it Paul, around here, if it shows up uninsured, the car or bike is snatched no question! A mate of mine had his car snatched, although insured, cost him £ 150 to get it back from the pound
he's still fighting it, but getting nowhere.

I know they have a job to do, and we all hate uninsured drivers/riders, but they HAVE to get the system fixed before stealing your bike. I regularly check my car and bike on the register (www.askmid.com), and I can summon it up on my mobile if required.

Coming from the side thats getting all the abuse I'd have to say that if you have checked and your bike is not on the database then it wont show on the ANPR (Same as the national insurance database) I would check with your insurer asap to make sure it goes on and then make sure your insurance is valid.. if not get tapes of the original calls that you made.
It may well piss you off but dont think it makes any money it costs more to process you than the government makes and none of the ticket money goes back into the police budget. Those mobile vans on the other hand fund themselves and they have no discretion whatsoever.

Ive not given anybody abuse?
Im not knocking the police, Im knocking the database / system.
The fact that the last two Sundays at Devil's Bridge have been more like a Traffic Police convention than a bike meet isnt the fault of the plod there, it's whoever sent them thats wasting rescource and alienating bikers. At this time of year it's normal bikers and year-round riders that are getting batterred, not teh people they need to target who come along in April onwards.
Ive already logged on to my insurance policy via ebike and it's definitely showing on both the schedule and Ive been able to print a certificate showing the date it came onto the policy. december 07. I can reasonably not be expected to do any more, Im covered, simple. It's the Insurance company who should be updating teh database and I emailed them today.

I go with PB on his sentiments.
When I was 18 in my Riley 1.5 (with leather) with wheel spacers and 5 passengers, I was pulled over...... I got the proverbial slap on the wrist and was told that if I was seen like that again I would be in trouble. I had a great deal of respect for the Police that day.... he could see I was not a Yob and used his discretion.
Nowadays it is not the same..... they seem so pleased to get a score..... whoever it is. When will the police realise... the one's they should be catching don't care a rats ass about the police or what they are trying to do to make the roads safer..... YOUR CATCHING THE WRONG PEOPLE.

Interesting but concerning. Just out of interest, I thought I'd check.....and sure enough my 90S is on the database but the 1100s isn't!
Contacted my insurance and confirmed I am fully insured for both bikes but was told this is a common problem with multi vehicle policies. Apparently they (the insurance company) have tried to resolve the problem but seem to get no-where.
.............and people say that they have no concerns over the forthcoming I.D. card scheme!

I just checked too; my 1100s isn't on there either ... I neither have the time or the inclination to be chasing this with the insurance company or the database keepers, as far as I'm concerned it's insured, this years premium is paid & I have the certificate on file.

yes but, it's you who is inconvenienced if you are pulled over, and unless you carry your certificate and policy doc with you, you run the risk of having your bike impounded, the release of it will cost you £££ regardless of your innocence.

I have just contacted ebike and they say that every time an ammendment is made they send it off to the database. They said that if there are one or two small mistakes in an updated then the update can fail and approx 5% fail. I pointed out that if my bike gets impounded then I'd hold them responsible, owing to teh fact it's their responsibility to update things. That would be an interesting case eh
