Newbie...sort of!!

Hi guys. I used to frequent Boxertrix 5 or 6 years ago when I had an 1100s. I must say it's changed a fair bit since those days. I've been riding Triumph sprint STs for the last few years after falling out with my local BMW dealer over a trade in price for my 1100s against a Boxercup. The Triumphs are great bikes with a tremendous engine but lately I took a hankering for a Boxercup again.
Anyway, while I was looking for a decent one I ended up trading my ST in for an r1200s. Shine yellow, year old with 456 miles on the clock and its got the sports suspension, heated grips, alarm and ABS. Here' the bad bit.......
I picked it up in Dundee on the 6th October and rode it home over Glenshee to Braemar and then in to Aberdeen. About a mile from home (122.6 miles after picking it up) I managed to highside it. I've very little recollection of what happened but ended up with a broken collar bone and 4 cracked ribs. The ribs are ok now and the collarbone is healing. the bike should be ready any time now as well so hopefully I'll get it home ina week or 2. Surprisingly there was only about a grands worth of damage to it.

I've got plans for the bike and want to fit a hugger first and a set of cans which let you hear it coming. All the huggers seem to be carbon fibre and cost a bloody fortune.....doesn't anyone make a plastic one that I can paint? I'd also appreciate any feedback on exhausts...the dealer mantioned that he could get me a good deal on Lazers. The othe thing I'm looking at is luggage; I did consider the sports panniers but I'm now thinking of the Ventura system (it has the advantage of providing a grab rail as well) so any help on that would be appreciated.

Sorry if I've gone on a bit any help or advice (other than give up biking) will be appreciated.

Tough luck Grant hope your not to sore. I can vouch for ventura use (d) it myself no ugly scaffolding when kit is off bike. Who wants panniers on a sports bike??

Hi Grant,
Nippy Normans do a Fibreglass hugger for around the £100 mark although I would suggest you contact Sandbar and treat the bike to the quality hugger it deserves!!!

Hi and welcome
Im using the Ventura rack and think it's ideal.
Cans: Akrapovic or Zard seem to be the most popular. Ive got Akra rear can and BOS downpipes at the mo and like the combination a lot. My first 12s was stolen and was fitted with a full Akra system which to be honest was great. No power dips at all and really loved it.
I had a full HPE system and didnt like it at all.

Ive got anIlmberger hugger which is admittedly dear, but think its really good

Hi Grant sorry to hear about your accident and glad to hear you are on the mend.I agree the carbon hugger is the best one i have seen and have bought two for both my 1200s(wrecked the first).Sandbar composites supplied them.

I think Peter (Herrman) has the official BMW panniers, and when they are off the bike - there are only a couple of stainless mushrooms sticking out the bodywork.

Hello Grant and welcome. Sorry to hear about the high-side.

I can certainly understand your reference to "the local dealer", I fell out with them last year after my 30K service and vowed never to darken their door again. Imagine my grief when they lost the dealership.

I understand that the guys in Dundee are utter gents compared to the utter c#nts that they had in Aberdeen. Anyhow, rant over.

I am also in Aberdeen Grant and ride a 2000 R1100s. She is tucked up in the garage for winter and requires a little TLC before next spring. However, I do drink beer all year round, so if you fancy a pint and some Boxter-bollocks, please drop me a PM. I shall be back in the UK this weekend for 4 weeks.

There are a few of us up around Aberdeen, a couple near Forfar/ France, and a heap of guys from the Dundee area down to Edinburgh and beyond. I attended 2 of the meets this year and both were very good indeed. A great opertunity to put faces to names. Not sure if you have seen the Thread yet but there is going to be another weekend in Wales next April and its bound to be a hoot.

I've had the bike back for a good few weeks now and have managed to rack up about 1000 miles on it. Been mostly shortish trips (circa 100 miles) as the collarbone still hurts a bit, especially in the cold.
I've spent a bit of cash on the bike too.....got one of the plastic huggers from Nippy Norman as I'm not a huge CF fan. Also got a Wunderlich screen for it last weekend and that is an improvement. I think the wind blast made my shoulder hurt more than it should. I've also purchased an AC Schnitzer belly pan and am now deciding whether to paint it plain yellow or maybe tart it up with some black or silver.....

I'll hopefully get to meet some of you over the coming months, and we can catch up for a drink Leasky when you are back in Aberdeen. I don't suppose your 'S' is black with a bellypan covered in stickers and Remus pipes is it? It could be my old one if it is.....although I didn't put the bellypan on it.

Hello Grant. Good to hear that your up and at the tarmac again.

I am back in Aberdeen at the moment and not away again till early Feb, so plenty of time to meet for a beer if required.

My bike is Silver and Yellow Grant, although I have tried to tart her up a little over the past 2 years. I am currently prepairing to fit a Garmin and Autocom system, so beer will be very high on the agenda as electronics is not my thing.
