Where would you go for a ride in - ride out tyre fitting within 20 miles of Vines?

Just been quoted £235 for a pair of 020's.... a dramatic price hike since I last had a pair fitted.

Guildford tyres fast fit motorcycle centre is at 97 New Road, Chilworth, Guildford, Surrey GU4 8LP, Tel:01483 531831. They are a good bunch of folks who I would happily recommend.

£235 is way too much.

Not sure how far Vines is away from Micheldever but I've just had a rear 180/55 BT020 fitted there for £102.83 which I thought was quite a good price. don't know how much the front would be but likely to be a big saving overall on what you've been quoted.

Micheldevers website is offline being revamped but you definately need to ring them first to get a price and check they have the tyres you want in stock. Number is 01962 774437.

I was quoted the above but they then tried to charge me £110 when I went to pay. Needless to say I paid the quote price without too much argument. It's also very busy on Saturdays so go early or during the week when it's quieter.

Good hunting

What Steve & Paul said. I used to use Guildford tyres before I moved back up north. The other place you could try is Fin's in Redhill (also good for servicing - see their website).

It's Guildford Tyres that I use... chatted to Alan, then phoned back to query it and spoke to Steve and was told that all the big manufacturers have very recently increased their prices by a not insignificant amount.

Having a quick wander about the net has sort of confirmed this but wanted to double check.

I've always used them and can only agree with your recommendations, just suprised by the new price.

Guildford tyres just fitted an 020 (rear) & 014 (front) for me on Saturday, cost the same as you've just been quoted. I was a tad surprised, but then again I haven't paid for a new set of tyres for over a year. It all depends on how far you want to ride for cheaper tyres & how much spare time you have on your hands.

I have just checked about the price rises with our tyre section. They confirm that the price of rubber has doubled recently which together with an increase in fuel costs has lead to increases of between 6 - 15 percent in the cost of tyres.

Huh? The chinese are buying up world supplies of BT020 and 014's to fit to their CG125 rip-offs?

Worth getting a quote from Wraysbury Tyres (at Chertsey) they are just a couple of guys in a unit up a rough track near Chertsey Bridge. They specialise in performance and bike tyres and were competitive when I bought some Bridgestones recently.

As they are bikers themselves they seem to take of your wheels when they change the tyres, which is more than you can for some of the spotty faced erks in the local quick fit places!

as Steve says, I would also recommend FWR been in there loads of times I normally save 20-30 quid over Guildford tyres.
They also stock Avons (try the new Azzarro Storms, think they're same pattern as Vipers and recommended, mate on S has some) that Guildford tyres don't stock.
