Fellow Trixters
When I bought my Grey/Tangerine R1100S a couple of years back, it came with but one ignition key. Of course I was going to get another cut.....which like a fool, I never did and the inevitable has happened, can't find the blasted thing, turned the house upside down today and nothing.
Can I get one from a Dealer if I prove ownership or more likely contact Motorworks to order a new barrel and keys? If the latter, how difficult is it to get the old barrel out - perhaps somone out there may have tackled this?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Cheers

Re: Key problem
If you take your V5 and proof of ID into your local dealer they can order a key for you.
If I lose a key it's often in the pocket of the last jacket I was wearing

Re: Key problem
Last time I lost me keys I had left them in the pannier lock when I took them off and put them in the garage. Didn't find them for 3 days

Re: Key problem
The ignition barrel is fitted with two security bolts. To remove it you have to either drill the bolt heads off or put a 1mm grinder cutting disc in the join and cut them. This will damage both the top yoke and the barrel but you can later space them out with a flat washer each side. I had to do this when I had my keys stolen at work. I re-fitted my lock with normal 8mm socket caps.

Re: Key problem
Many thanks for the advice - will try the dealer route first before full frontal attack on barrel.

Re: Key problem
Might be best since you also need that key to open the seat lock.
Re: Key problem
GG, they are in the back pocket of your bike jeans. HTH!
Re: Key problem
Some threads here on removing the switch / internals/ barrel. If the repair kit mentioned in the thread includes tumblers to mix & match to an existing key maybe a lock smith can do the reverse?

Re: Key problem
Thanks everyone for the info. Ordered a key cut using the VIN from main dealer Dick Lovett here in Bristol. Comes from Germany - still waiting for it nearly three weeks later (

3 weeks? Seems a bit long. 22 hours from BMW but that was for a 1200S key. I was told they cut them in London.
