New Job, New City, New Life
Now then
So I was offered a job on Thursday that I had applied for, to be a Motorcycle Instructor for a Motorcycle shop in Edinburgh. I accepted and I so I am leaving my present job of 18 years as Installation Manager, having a complete career change and moving form North Yorkshire, that has been my home for 37 years, to Edinburgh, to be with Carolyn. I said if I move I don't want to do a job, just because I can do it, I want to do a job because, I want to do it, then, out of nowhere, the opportunity arose and I've taken it. I told them I am not walking away with only two weeks notice to Scottie, my Mate and Boss because I cant walk away without integrating my replacement fully into my role and making sure its in safe hands. I've helped build the company from 9 employees to now 50 strong so my new employer has been very good and is giving me 6 weeks grace, I start 15th October.
Looking forward to riding some unknown roads and exploring the glorious Scottish countryside.
A very happy JT

Re: New Job, New City, New Life
A big move but hopefully a new chapter that you will enjoy. Did the same moving from Essex to the Midlands 12 years ago and along with the odd problem it brings a wealth of new opportunities. I'm near some of the best circuits in the country and some great roads are not far to the east in the Lincs Wolds.
Good luck and hope it all goes well for you.

Congratulations, you've got some great riding country on your door step (although you're not badly off in N. Yorks). All the best for the new job and the new living arrangements. Welcome to Scotland.
Cheers

Re: New Job, New City, New Life
Well done taking the courage to make the move and change.
Re: New Job, New City, New Life
bon chance John! Big move. After years traipsing around the world as a global IT Infrastructure manager I was weary of the travel. Am now (mostly) enjoying my return to bike sales, it's a nice place to be until retirement.
Best wishes

Re: New Job, New City, New Life
Update :
Didn't pass my Assessment in October, passed 6 out of 7 elements but have to pass them all. Discussed getting more experience with the shop before going back for another assessment but then started to suffer with my knee (which has had a fair bit of trauma due to two major bike accidents over the years) due to the cold and its not even winter yet. Had a long hard think and discussion and have had to admit my knee will not allow me to do an outside job during winter so I've had to give up the idea of the Instructor job, gutted. The MD of the shop has said he's still interested in taking me on to work for him so in discussion about that opportunity.
I'm staying in Yorkshire at my present job till end of February and then moving to Edinburgh.
Things change but life goes on, onward and upward.

Re: New Job, New City, New Life
Sorry to read this - hope something else which appeals, turns up.
One thing to consider, is that a lot of instructors (and police) effectively give up most or all of their recreational biking once it becomes a job.
(And I’m pretty sure you can’t hoon around on a lesson )
Good luck, anyway!
