R1200S values?
There’s 3 R12s on auto trader all admittedly around the 15K miles or under and look to be in very nice condition but the prices being asked
The cheapest one is £5799 going up to £7695 2 dealer and one private which is the most expensive.
That’s more than I payed for mine over 9 years ago with 200 miles on the clock, I know asking a price and getting it are two different things but us long term owners must be sitting on a gold mine (pewter anyway)

Well if you want something that stands out from the crowd - with only 387 ever registered - 180 on the road and 88 sorn as we speak - there is a price to pay. Lock at how much people will pay for old escort rs2000's, xr3's etc.
Maybe people are starting to forget/not aware about the bad reception they got at the launch from the media etc for daring to be 'sporty'!

Depends on what you want. If you want to hang on to an investment bike and not ride it then an r1200s is for you for all the reasons you stated. The r1200s is a long bike, a good rider on a 12s can out hustle a mediocre rider on anything else. It is good but the investment modern sporty boxer bike is the HP2s. The r1200s narrative is only kin to this website. They are available for less money elsewhere. The r1200rlc is far a sportier bike with modern aids and capacious two up amenity. I would say that I have one!

I'm afraid to look at what mine is worth. 86,000 miles, non original paint, hard worked and battle scarred. Baldestons in Peterborough suggested I eBay it rather than px when I was looking at a Mille there some time ago and I only had 70,000 on the clock then!!!. That said, there is a nice RC8 in Chris Walker Kawasaki that feels nice to sit on and is a bit different from the norm.

BTW I like very much the exclusivity of the 1200s, but that don`t make it a great sportsbike. Defo a sports bike but not a great one. Back in the day it was not an upgrade for the utility 1100s nor was it gonna prise the wad from a gixxer or blade buyer. Only divorcees who had an 1100s bought them or train spotters. Buyers seem to want them now. You can buy an R1200rs lc used for £9k or even the sportier R1200r lc. It`s a no brainer!

I haven't tried one yet but with basically the same engine, 20kg heavier and fork angle that looks more relaxed, coupled with no aerodynamics, I don't reckon it would be sportier, although I agree on luggage and passenger capabilities, although those are characteristics of a tourer. But it doesn't have the wind protection a tourer offers so a strange bike indeed as I consider fairings fundamental both for going on a longer journey or for trackday fun Also it lacks the telelever which I see as a negative, pack on as much electronic suspension as you want...

Good points, it is arguable, but try it first and then tell me what you think. I have ridden the 1200s it is an improvement on the 1100s.
I am sure you will be surprised. It is a far better road bike than the 1200s. There is no way a 1200s can accelerate out of a corner quicker than a lc 1200r with quick shifter and no way it could brake and shift down for a corner, no way it could be more stable in a corner. If the tele lever is that good why is it not fitted to the s1000rr

I'd be happy to find out at a track day, I'm pretty sure it could do all these points.
Regarding the telelever I believe the reason that was sacrificed was only to appeal a different target than BMW purists when launching the s1000 series which would probably have been impossible with the R1 and Gixxer people should they have kept the unfamiliar frontend.

I have a R1200RS, so Chris's bike with 'aero' and I agree with him on every point except the telescopic forks . Mine has electronic damping control etc. but it is still not a patch on the Telelever on my 1100S or 3 1200GS's.
Overall the 1200RS is a better bike than the 1100S - it would be an even better one with a Telelever front end!

I test rode one and was left disappointed (should be a thread here somewhere from last year), it was much less of a sportsbike than the 12s and definitely not quicker. Would make a great tourer though and loved the quickshifter.... ♥️
