R1100S - keep or sell...?

Postby andrwboul » Sun Nov 12, 2017 3:09 pm

Suffering with a long term lower back issue - I love my r1100S however it is causing me discomfort to ride. I have bought an old R1100RT which suits me just fine (although not the same sense of ownership pride mainly due to much poorer condition). The R1100S which I bought from the first owner and now with just over 5 thousand from new. Can’t decide whether to keep it in the hope I make a miraculous recovery...

Sorry to hear about your discomfort, and the stressful decision.

If you don't need to sell it I would say don't. Use something more comfortable for you as the usual ride. Enjoy looking after your collector's piece, and ride it when you feel able for fun.

My R1100S gives me loads of pleasure, but it covers less than a thousand miles per year now.

So yes if you can keep it, you will still enjoy looking after it and when you do ride it it will be bring back such a great feeling.

Hmm

Just went back and looked at the photo ... some interesting bits and bobs ...

No passenger footpegs but an unusual carrier for the lower pannier mounting. And the extended rear mudguard which my first '99 R1100S had (I took it off because it distracted from the illegal small carbon number plate ... I was young(er) ) , but the EVO brakes which were on my second R1100S by which time the extended mud guard had been deleted.

I still think you should keep it

I think that's the standard lower mount only it's usually hidden behind the pillion pegs isn't it ?

As far as I am aware they are standard pannier mountings , I do have the rear pegs hanging up in the garage. It’s a lovely bike and I still think they look fanatatasic. I do have a set of Givi panniers and top box which I may as well sell - and maybe the OE set too if the RT is doing the ‘work’ so to speak. Thanks for the replies ...

Keep the 11S if you can and work on the back - I'm glad I did.
This might be of help if you don't have a copy -

I am thinking if you have to ask the question your mind is 90pc on the way to buying a new bike! which in itself is exciting especially with modern tech , fantastic handling and mega performance/weight ratios. There will always be someone willing to buy your old gal so it`s a win win situation :)

Go for it, life`s short
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

Thanks for all responses and advice. For the time being I’m going to keep it - and hope the back gets a bit better as I love the bike ...decision postponed for now!
