Outstanding Service

For a few years now, I've been getting routine eye tests and glasses from SpecSavers. Recently I'd notice an intermittent light flickering in the corner of my left eye, so phoned SpecSavers late on Friday afternoon for advice, thinking they might tell me to go to my GP.

But they gave me an appointment for 9:30 Saturday morning. They really took it very seriously, and their attention to detail was exceptional. I underwent a whole battery of tests, including detailed examination of the retina, peripheral vision, and pressure tests. The store was quite busy, but the staff made me feel like I was their only customer. Outstanding service.

My wife went through the same tests a couple of years ago with the NHS, but had to wait some time for a referral to come through (no criticism of the NHS, but it took a while).

It feels odd singing the praise of a high street chain, but I was seriously impressed.

My missus had an eye test there at our local one. Was told the jelly behind her eye had broken down and she now has a permanent black worm in her eye. She had an appointment at the eye specialist at the hospital and specsavers diagnosis was correct. Missus also rates them.

I also agree they are good. I bought a new pair of very stylish glasses from SpecSavers last year, all was well until I next went for a motorcycle ride and realised I had chosen a frame that was too wide to get under my helmet. SpecSavers were happy to replace them with a new pair even though I admitted it was all my own fault.

My independant optician is complaining that he gets the referrals from 3 local Specsavers branches to do all the "difficult" or more involved eye tests and then never gets the sale of the specs, as the customers always go back to Specsavers for cheap frames after he has done the hard work.
The reason I went to him in the first place was that Specsavers messed up my prescription twice.

We have a very good local independent optician that my wife still uses. I only changed to SpecSavers because the company I worked for stopped giving generic eye care vouchers that I could use anywhere, and gave SpecSavers vouchers. I do feel a bit guilty not using the independent.
