Who won? I fell asleep towards the end.

Are these new v6 engines big/long bang? The exhaust note is now very flat, much like a lot of moto gp bikes. Is it just the fact that they're silenced now and have a lower rev limit?

Most boring F1 racing yet. The commentators are struggling to "big it up" I feel.

Their enthusiasm for all the regulations/restrictions seems very false......... Murray Walker would have walked.

Engine note? Sounds like a load of cross-plane R-1 engines.......... completely lacklustre.

Won't be switching on again.

Watching the highlights, fell asleep after 5 laps (couple of pints at lunchtime :oops: ) and then woke up with 15 laps to go at which point I switched it off and went and washed my car.

Not sure that is what Bernie had in mind :roll:

I think the cars are amazing and the technology behind it too. These vehicles are relevant. Power recovery systems using hybrid engines. 1600cc`s turbo charged, aerodynamic fast as fcuk and with a crop of brilliant young drivers behind the steering thing.

The righteous superlatives posted previously may equally be applied to any "elite" motor sport and if F1 is not good then how low on this scale does elite class bike racing gravitate to? :)

Bernie Ecclestone to some may be loathsome, may not be able to negotiate a revolving door but by heck I wish I was tens of millions behind him! :wink:

If the engines are Big Bang format, and I suspect they are, is this as a direct result of the perceived benefits in motorcycles? Is it a first in formula 1?

There's no denying that F1 technically is amazing. The problem for me at least is most of the time its a boring non event.
Too often the race is won by strategy, and many a time that's the hub of the commentators excitement, and there's me thinking it was all about the race.
Indeed there are times when Moto GP can be a little on the boring side but at least its only 40 minutes or so.

MotoGP normally has a period of 5-10 minutes of intense action before settling into a bit of a procession for 20 minutes, then another 5 minutes of intense action at the end.

Even in the middle you can admire the skill and bike handling.

F1 has 1 corner of action, followed by an hour and a half of not much, I usually take a sunday afternoon nap and wake up just before the end to find out that Vettel has won again.

While the new technology is interesting it did not make for great racing. Ok it shook the order up a bit but it is still completely dull. What action does happen is contrived to give the appearance of excitement, DRS, pit stops, having to run different tyre types etc.

F1 has some fundamental problems. While I don't have the answer, it seems the ruling body don't either.

I suppose the exhaust noise output will be lower due to the turbo? Plus, it seems there is also another device, downsteam of the turbo, which extracts some more heat energy to convert into (and store) electrical energy, (for later release as mechanical power?)

I haven't found any official information on whether the crank /ignition is arranged to give big bang as opposed to screamer firing order.

I haven't watched F1 in ages and didn'y watch the first one either , so you had me trawling through forums looking for tech regs , as you discovered they're not silenced , but they seem a bit tame compared to the 1000 +bhp one lap motors that were around in the 80's. The fuel efficiency is interesting compared to last year .... . 15 k rev limit but possibly developing max power at 11k rpm.?
Talking of the old turbos ,I have a dvd titled" lap of the Gods" which has 35mm on board pre qualifying laps of all the 70's circuits.
The cars have no front end grip , huge turbo lag and then once out of the corner they light up the rear tyres on any straight bits in any gear.
There's a lap with the non turbo Tyrrell 6 wheeler around Monaco minus the body work , and there's a wet lap with Eddie Cheever around Detroit in the Renault. It's spinning up in every gear and he's frantically sawing at the steering wheel even in a straight line just to keep it out of the barriers

Still , I think I'd trade all of that for the likes of the ( admittedly a one day wonder) Brabham fan car.
