R1200ST V Tiger 800 ABS Roadie

Postby dorsetboy » Sat May 11, 2013 11:07 pm

Sold my R1200ST yesterday, what a nice bike that has given me great days out. Shame but needs must.

*Copied from my post in sales section....

Right, its the Tiger 800 ABS Roadie with all the XC extra bits & is therefore not comparable in any way to the R1200ST which is a differant animal.

The Tiger is nice and light and is excellent in heavy traffic. Good for a fast overtake in oncoming traffic. (har har).
Great on tight corners + Big roundabouts.
Up to 85 its fine...up from that I would be wary of a high speed bend.
Its not a sports bike so dont ride it like a fireblade.
Fuel consumption seems to be quite high, enough to carry a spare 5L fuel can on this summers run to the incontinent.
The side stand is dubious, I stopped to take a photo and the bloody thing fell over and snapped a lever! Bugger!
The seat height is great for my shorty legs.
There is a factory power point on the consul which is a good thought but the garmin wired into the battery with ease.
The Garmin mount was fitted and the 660 just bolted on. brilliant.
The upright ride position is fantastic on my shoulders and wrists.
The brakes are good but not as good as the ST so I have learned to have greater care.
I dont have the luggage so no report on that.
Oh, the throttle sticks when the heated grips were on! A little Triumph treat for the unwary!

Now the important bit......
My Wife likes it and says the pillion seat is comfy.
Its Black and shiny and has some bits that are gold****!
She says the gear change is very smooth and of course she is pleased to be on a nice new bike when we pull up on Poole Quay for a coffee.
The tank bag converts to a nice Triumph shoulder bag for lippie and her purse.
She will be off next week to buy a Triumph jacket.
What She does not like is the Engine/exhaust tone which does not sound like a Harley. (?....! some logic there but lost on myself).

So, a good reult and everyone is happy.

Why not the BMW F800GS? Well I did take one out for a test ride.
It was not as quick on the throttle as the Tiger on a overtake.
I was not comfortable with the higher seat.
My wife said it looked cold and went back inside.
Enough said.

Will I buy another BMW...Yes. How about a nice Light blue R1200R. that sounds good.
