Mark, your budget should get you a great 1100s (can't say the same for a gs) I let my 18k 02 1100s in fastest marakesh red (not ddp) for £ 2500 18 months ago I was a fool then, but would be happy to buy at that price now
as long as the bike has a detailed service history, I wouldnt worry too much about mileage, at least not like you would with a jap bike!

R1100S or R1150GS?

Where do you guys search when you're shopping for bikes?
I'm aware of autotrader.co.uk, mobile.de and MCN.
The only dealer-sale R1100Ss I see for around the €2500 mark seem to be crashed repairables - would any of you guys bother with these?
Where would I go to find R1100S spares prices? Is there a BMW equivalent of David Silver Spares (the Honda guy)?
Or would a "seems trustworthy over the phone & email" private seller be a better bet?
When I bought the FireStorm, the dealer dropped quite a bit off his advertised price for two main reasons - 1. He was able to reclaim the road tax on the bike (UK road tax useless to me), 2. His UK warranty was also of limited use to me, though he did say if anything went drastically wrong, he'd look after it if I did bring it back. That was easy to accept - the bike was blatantly a minter, and I knew plenty of good private mechanics in case something had been very well concealed.
If I presume that any dealer selling an R1100S will be able to come to some similar arrangement to the dealer I got my FireStorm from, and factor in a little haggling, I could be looking at maybe up to £500 or so off any advertised price. Is that unrealistic of me?
EDIT: Actually, I should really have been comparing the R1100S with the R1100GS, rather than the 1150GS, shouldn't I? The 11S and 11GS are closer in budget than the 11S and 1150GS. Hmmm...

The R1100GS prices are silly and I personaly found it a very hard bike to live with mainly because the screen and the headlight were rubbish.. anyway as for spares motorworks are pretty good and all online.

Spoilt for choice really although service items can be about the same price at your local stealer.

What's a high-mileage S? 100,000? 50,000? If a bike's mechanically sound and not falling apart and there's nothing missing and it's not damaged and it's not cosmetically destroyed, then why should high miles be a problem or something to fear?
If I thought I could get a decent 1100S on home soil, sure I'd have a look at it.
Mark
I've owned my '99 S for over 4 years and it currently has over 65k miles on it. Bmw dealers aren't interested and non bmw dealers won't touch it but I haven't an idea what it's worth ,hence my interest in your post.
You can read about my recent woes in the tech forum , (sorted ) but my quandary is do i hold onto what is (for me) quite a nice bike or attempt to sell now and purchase something else maybe at the end of the year.
(I may try something completely different).
I'm Dublin based so if you do want to see an 1100s (even for comparison purposes )let me know.
