Went for a run with my next door neighbour yesterday and had a shot of his Triumph ST. So smooth and confortable with the S being like a vibrating tractor in comparison. However, after a while you realise the whole front end is dissapearing beneath you every time you brake for a corner and the feedback through the bike from the tyres is very vague. Also, you hav'nt a clue what gear you are in due to there being no gear pedal movement when in top which is really knaff as you keep trying to change up in top gear.
More refined it might be but I think less of a proper motorcycling experience in my mind. My neighbour was just confused when he got off my bike and you can understand why folk find them difficult to get on with after the sophistication of a multi cylinder bike.

TheTriumph engine is a peach...really smooth yet torquey as well. I sold my 1100s and bought an ST when my local BMW dealer wouldn't give me a decent price on a trade in for a new BCR. This was followed by a further ST which I did a fair few mods to, the best being a set of Wolf underseat open pipes.......sounded ace when wound up. WP suspension also sorted out the handling. I did about 50k on both bikes in about 5years without any real problems. I still have a 900 Tiger which is currently receiving loads of tlc in my garage.
But as you say the Boxer has a character all of it's own, which is why I've returned to the fold.
