You forgot the other 'benefit' of fitting yer own - you can mark your rims up badly if it goes wrong! I find removing the tyre the most difficult when its half off.

I either:

Get tyres supplied and fitted by my local bike shop either loose or ride in.
Get tyres myself, and get them fitted at the local bike shop either loose or ride in.

For the sake of a few quid a year - I’d like to support the local shop. He reckons he makes nothing on the supply of the tyres, just charges time for the fitting.

I’m sure he will leave the balance weights off - If I ask him.
