Me too and I'm surprised as I'm not a fan of this new 'custom look' that all the hipsters are responsible for, or the flat seat (how comfy will that be after a 400mile day) or that removable hump. However, I've sat on one and the dealer says I should take their demo out for a few hours. If I bought one, I feel it could be my last bike. Thing is, I don't think heated grips are an option. Are they mad!?

I test rode one a few months ago and I was a bit underwhelmed to be honest. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it of course but it's got pretty limited functionality if you wanted to do more than just hoon around on it within a 75 mile radius of your home. I also hated the front fork dive under heavy braking, something I really wasn't used to and found it a bit unnerving. Expensive for what it is but if I was fortunate enough to be in the position where I could have a brand new bike as a second bike (or third) bike it would probably be up there. Equally, if all you ever want to do is hack around country lanes in the summer for a few hours and nothing else, it would probably do the trick but it's a high price to pay.

I do secretly like a nicely done custom (especially of an old BMW). The problem is I live far too close to east London, I have a beard and I wear a Belstaff jacket. I think the R9T would push me over the edge

I rang Alan Jeffries after a s/h R1200R a month ago, and put the phone down having placed a deposit on a new Nine. Picked it up a fortnight ago.
I quite like it!
Heated grips are a dealer fit option. I went for them and a seat hump. It actually fits instead of the pillion, not over the seat like an 11S cowl does.
The grips are £300. the Hump is £300. Its made in aluminium and there's just room for some unlined overtrousers.
The saddle doesn't have much padding, but the shape seems to suit my arse!
I've got to 180 miles before the fuel light, and was happy to get back on. The bars allow a comfy position for my spondilosis-ridden neck and afford a good view. The pegs are kind to the knees, but you can still perch on the balls of your feet if you're pressing on.
I like the style of the front mudguard and the way the stays also protect the fork stanchions, but its definitely form over function, and the engine is going to suffer.
I've ordered a hugger for the rear. I also want to do something about the diving board rear lamp assembly.
I'm considering an R90S style fairing, but I'm not sure yet, and I haven't seen one in the flesh.
The standard raygun silencer sounds quite nice and the sales guy pointed out that the baffles are removable. I like the sporty look of the low level Akra, but it's £900-odd.

Ha! That's my problem too. I think you are just around the corner from me. I also have a beard but my Belstaff got thrown out by my old man who thought it was his old one even though it was like new. grrr. (My fault I suppose, I'd left it in his loft.)
