anyone know much about Swiss roads and routes

Postby tripe » Tue Jun 03, 2014 6:49 pm

in a couple of weeks heading to Switzerland. Need to get from Montreux to Mendrisio down near Como. Just wondered if anyone has suggestions of a good route.

Furka pass, then take your choice...

Swiss roads are generally good, the police are obsessive about speeding, the best rule is, don't, you'll need a vignette for the motorways which you can buy at the border. be careful in towns and villages as they're throwing in a lot of 30kmh limits. Honestly the constantly changing limits drive you mad!

I drive in Switzerland a lot as my main office is there. Petrol is cheaper than Diesel, and probably cheaper than the UK.

have fun, it's a beautiful place..

Second that for changing speed limits; the worst is some areas go down from 60 kph to 50 without much warning and the cameras are grey and more obscure than in the UK. Many road repairs about in some areas so look well ahead. Plus point is they do repair the roads correctly and the surface isv adream compared to UK. THere is a road near my Mum's back home I call Beruit due to the amount of patching and pottholes still to be patched.

thank you for the advice. have planned some routes from here http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-gb/inte ... tions.html

looking forward to the south to north route as Furka and Grimsel are at the top of my list.

Wish there were more people as efficient as the Swiss for helping us travel there.

Sorry for the delay

Will be in the vicinity of Meringen 15, 16 and 17th. Then the B500 to Baden Baden, 19th Waterloo, ferry back on Friday 20th

Will be with a couple of m8s on multistrada and gs, I will be on the only (so I'm told) gs1200 wc with ktm orange panels.
Feeling bad about leaving the 11s at home for the first time in 10 years :-(

What are you riding?
