The pinstripes ruin it in my opinion....all over the shop...pity the rest ...pipe apart is quality.

Not that I doubt your knowledge and experience but that's amazing to hear of a standard end can that's more efficient than an aftermarlket one that breathes more easily

It doesn't really matter how efficient an end can is, if the exhaust gases have been restricted (cat.) and messed around with (balance pipe and where the pipes join) before they get to the end can!

There is a minor gain to be had with most (not all!!) end cans, but mostly it is aesthetic and noise! It is not just me and HPE (R.I.P.), plenty on here have found that with an R1200S, the most performance gain is a set of better front pipes!

Most people associate noise with power
Usually increasing noise will give a tiny bit more power at the very top end leaving a gaping hole in the mid range
Hence me running standard cans on mine despite having lots of other mods
Dumping the cat and opening up the inlet will work well on most bikes

Definitely like the R12, but the specimen they had was very shabby and not been looked after. Screen was so scratched it looked like it had been cleaned with a brillo pad, all the bolts were rusty, front engine cover was missing about 60% of its paint and the brakes I think were bordering on the illegal.

That's annoying. I'd put that one on my list of bikes to see. The pictures look far better than your description!
It sounds like the twin of the one I went to see in Gloucester...

Maybe I'm being picky but rusty fixings are not what I expect!

The brake pads were crumbling and it could probably do with a couple of tyres. Neat and tidy it was not.

I'm fairy picky (not to some peoples OCD standards) but I expect a bike to have been well maintained. If a bike looks this crappy on the outside what else has been missed service wise? Its had a hard life

wait I mean weight

Postby John Coles » Tue Jul 30, 2013 7:41 am

So can someone please tell me the weight of the r1200s? On the sites I looked at they have the R1100s at 208kg and the 12 at 213kg which is not what I am hearing here.

Thanks.

Hello,

Extract from the Original Sales Brochure:

Unladen weight, fully fuelled/road-ready with operating fluids 213 kg
Dry weight without fuel & operating fluids 190 kg

Hope that clears it up?

Best regards,

David

and the 1100s is 229kg wet / 208kg dry declared by BMW.

16kg reduction on the wet weight. (or 2 and a half stone)
