Your Weather !!!

Postby HerrFlick » Sat Jan 19, 2013 2:29 pm

Cripes - are you ppl ever getting a hiding with your weather.

My eldest son lives in Sheffield (he's a downhill MB nut) so my ears prick up whenever UK items appear on the news here.

I visited Denis in London in '06. Was my first time in the UK. He lived in Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill.Beside Brockwell Park. Great little brasserie at the 5-ways: Cafe Provencal. Coffee there every morning.

Wore out lots of shoe leather around London.

Spent a month getting about from Cornwall (Fowey) to Edinburgh (North Queensferry). In his Saxo 1.5L non-turbo diesel... Denis knew a lot of good off-the-track stuff to do - like the last round of the BSBK c'ships at Brands. :)

It was October, so we got the end of the Indian Summer of that year.

Britain absolutely knocked my socks off. Wow.

Came home jibbering about moving to Cornwall if I won The Pools. Each of the kids (they've all worked there) advised I should live there for a winter before making up my mind.

I've been busting to get back and it looks like I might make it this year. Want to include some time at Nurburgring.

While not travelling I lived the everyday life at his flat (including doing a spot of handyman stuff), so got to know abt Tescos & Sainsbury's, B&H, Curry's, A to Z, the local hardware shop under the arch, offy's, double yellow lines, cameras watching bus lanes, Gatso's.

His g/f's family live in Wansford so I saw a bit of the Stamford-Peterborough area also.

So I take an interest in the conversations here as they often mention something I can relate to while I was there.

Cheers

John C.

Blimey, Half Moon Lane, or memory Lane for me. The Pub, The Half Moon was a Big Music Pub back in the 70's early 80's, used to go down every Thursday Night(Pay Day back then). I met one of my first loves there, Karen, who happened to be the sister of John Ford of Hudson Ford and the Strawbs fame, I even went to John Fords wedding, didnt last though. And going back earlier just over the road was Brockwell Park Lido where me dad used to give me swimming lessons.

On a funnier note, just round the back used to be Mahatma Ghandi Industrial Estate, Im sure the Only Fools and Horses writer got some inspiration there.

Thanks for the Nostalgia Trip.

Now, back to digging the f....g car out of the snow drift.

Well, this is what our garden looks like right now.

I have winter tyres on the MX5, so we've been able to get out to work when most of the rest of the estate have been stranded.

A couple of years ago, I took the Hongdou trail bike out in the snow - got to the pub half a mile down the road and decided it was a bloody stupid idea - so I won't be doing that again!

74 degrees, blue skies and a light breeze. Nice change from the week of 22 degree mornings and 50 degree afternoons. But rest assured, when it is 110 degrees next summer, I won't be riding past 9 or 10 AM.

I did spend a couple of years just south of the Canadian border, though. It typically snowed in November, and we didn't see the ground again until May. I much prefer Arizona.

Here are some shots of my Journey to the coast (Alnmouth) yesterday. Going cross border country from Jed via Yetholm and Wooler. Shots have the Cheviots in the background. The others are of my missus clearing the drive this morning

Incidently I can advise from experience that 4x4 alone is not enough to keep you on the road, Snow tyres are also essential for steering round bends. I have had a few scary moments from lapses of concentration when cornering.
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.
