PLAY IT LOUD

Postby Blackal » Sun Nov 01, 2015 5:44 pm

Watched this the other evening on TV, and it's still on iPlayer:

The Story of the Marshall Amp.

A great tribute to one of the most unsung influences on music.

Don't know about unsung Al. I think it's more a recent thing that Marshalls aren't used as much as in "the good old days". the choice of amps these days is unreal - as is the choice of guitars - lots of cheap guitars which are all playable unlike the cheese graters of the past.

I think some of Jim Marshall's finest techies went on to make Blackstar amps.

Remember as a kid going to Newcastle City Hall and seeing a back wall of Marshalls - still brings back happy memories

Au contraire................

Jim Marshall's personal input to the groundbreaking amp - is largely unknown in the world, and most people wouldn't recognise that it has been an English company from day one.

As iconic as the Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster, (and "Steps" )

The programme mentions that there was a resurgence several years ago (with the type of music prevailing worldwide - Disco wasn't a great era for Marshall Amps, or anyone - other than spandex and rhinestone manufacturers  )

Seems like they are still the choice of the musicians/bands - who can afford them.

Maybe, as a keen musician in my younger I took it for granted that everyone knew who Jim Marshall was
