Hi Nigel, the Crosstourer doesn't have great fuel economy (40-ish MPG) but the NC750X is returning almost double the MPG of the X-Tourer which suits me as I'm the geezer who pays for ALL the fuel-ups whenever we're out'n'about
Steve, Richard, I hadn't considered a Crossdresser before buying the Versys but on reflection perhaps I should have as it's a much nicer bike to own & ride, don't get me wrong, the Versys did most things well but after test riding the X-Tourer I realised it was the better machine. The Versys gearbox was 'short' & I found myself constantly looking for 7th gear, the bike was uber quick after 6000revs which isn't suitable for the way I ride or the roads I like to ride on, so most of the power went unused. The X-Tourer has a l-o-n-g gearbox (similar to the 11S) and I find the power is much more useable. The shaft drive versus chain drive is self explanatory. Both bikes are a tad soft in the suspension department which could be easily remedied with some after market fork springs/ replacement shocker etc but as i'm a tight git I can live with it for now.
The Versys isn't the prettiest bike on the market where the x-Tourer is the best looking bike I've owned (Gail's words

Talking of Gail, it was she who 'encouraged' moi to buy the Honda following the Test ride we took on it. I think I got a stonking deal too, a very good p/ex and the bike was sub £10K OTR with 3-years guarantee, not a massive amount of money considering I paid a similar amount for a new 1150GS in 2001.
If you get the opportunity you should blag a long test run on one from your friendly Honda dealer.
