A few pics from a run today.

A few pics taken today of a 2 hr local run in lovely weather out to Loop head and the cliffs. I just love the sea

An amazing sky
Lovely late summer colours , no trees of bushes for miles due to the strong Atlantic winds.
This is a view of Mount Brandon across Tralee Bay beyond Kerry Head, and it is about 25 miles away from where this was taken at Loop Head lighthouse. There were 3 plane crashes on it during the war, one of them was a Sunderland flying boat flying between Lisbon and Poole and scheduled to land at the flying boat base in Foynes on the Shannon Estuary which was a major transatlantic base prior to land based aircraft crossing the Atlantic from the US.
Anyway on 27 July 1943 BOAC G-AGES was due to land at Foynes late in the evening, however due to bad visibility the aircraft was instructed to circle around the mouth of the estuary. when clearance to land was finally given as the plane was running low on fuel, the pilot hadent realised the plane had been blown south due to a northerly breeze and he hit Mount Brandon at an altitude of 2,000 ft.
Tragically of the 28 on board 10 died. Among the cargo was mail from British POWs in Java which got scattered everywhere in the crash, much was collected but locals found letters scattered everywhere in the area for up to 8 months after the crash and forwarded it onto the families.
There are many artifacts still displayed in the nearest village of Cloghane today including bent props, radial engines and much more.
I always think of this incident when I see Brandon.
