--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi there, only had my licence since May '07 and gave myself 6 months on a Ducati Monster before getting my hands on an R1100s to commute and get up and down to Norfolk on. What a bike! Despite weighing nearly as much as a small car it is better in traffic than my little Monster owing to better balencing and superiour steering lock and has been the ideal tool, strting and behaving in all weather and stretching it's legs with the best of them (my friends all have Jap bikes) whilst being as comfy as anything.
You can therefore appreciate my dismay on Saturday morn when two pikeys smashed the ignition barrel and attempted to make off with it when it ws temporally unchained up.
I now have a hole where the key goes in and a busted steering lock. Has anyone had experience of this situation and can anyone recommend best course of action as its stranded in the middle of London...? I am a bit desperate!!!
New and in need of a hand!

Hello Roop.
Why is it still stranded in London?, did the attack affect the bike in some other way, you should still be able to ride it to safety. Give a lad called Steptoe a call - you'll find his details somewhere on here or on the UKGSER site (under links - tends to be more prolific on there). I'm sure he''ll do his best to sort you out, from memory he's based on the outskirts of London. Hope all goes well.
Doubt it was Pikeys though - it would have been in the back of a van and gone, they're quite proficent with oxyacetalyn.

yep
well the bike, is unrideable as there is no way of controlling the ignition and the alarm immob cut in and out and now the battery is too flat any way. I've managed to chain it up in an underground carpark for the meantime and am gonna get the RAC to move it. Managed to buy a key, barrel and steering lock this morn of Boxer Parts and plan to hand it and bike over to a spanner wielding genius. Needs drilling out properly I'm told.
Seems to be a real lack of non-franchise Boxer guys in LDN, or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places!
Thanks for your help, will let you know the outcome

Steptoe will sort you out, he's a well thought of genius - may even be able to recover the bike for you (that's assuming you would have to foothe bill of the RAC) but don't quote me. Sorry to hear that it's more complicated than it first sounds - always the case! Can only hope the B**?@£DS that did it will get their come uppance at some point. Although it doesn't make matters any better, it happened to me whilst I was a student years ago. I was fortunate in that this was before the widespread advent of alarms and immobilisers on bikes so it was still rideable.
Keep us posted on how you get on.

Hi Rupe,
if you can't track down Steptoe, give "Jap and German" a try. you can find them at the end of this URL: http://www.japandgerman.co.uk/
cheers,
Paul

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Thank
Cheers paul, have spoken to J & G and getting her booked in over next day or two. Plus the replacement part arrived from BoxerWorks in under 24 hours for a nice 2nd hand price (a fraction)
Things are looking much brighter. Now just got to find a cheap battery as I think this ordeal has drained mine to death.....
Thanks again,
Rupert
