Hello from the north west

Hello all,

I've posted elsewhere about my recent test ride (and subsequent purchase of) an R1200RS so thought id just say Hi to everyone.

I'm Ben and I live in the North West on the outskirts of Liverpool. I've been into bikes since early teens (my dad was / still is a biker) and I started with a few dirt bikes (KDX XR600 etc) and then progressed onto road bikes with a 600 fazer, a couple of triumph 955i Daytona's and most recently a 1250 bandit. The bandit got me back on bikes after 3 or 4 years without one and seemed bike a sensible and cheap choice at the time, its been a decent bike and has taken me and the missus on holiday round France and Germany without any issues or complaints. My only gripes with it would be the short tank range and its lack of owner pride (for me at least).

So recently I got to thinking about changing bikes and had done a bit of head scratching as to what I was actually looking for in a bike. Certainly wanted something that was reasonably rapid (1000cc plus) but that had plenty of usability in terms of taking the missus on the back and being able to tour on it and I wanted something that was a step up from the budget feel of the bandit. Initially I had fancied the K1300r and was thinking about a used model of a few years old.

But that's when things took a slight left turn and I noticed an 18 month old 1200RS being advertised at a motorrad dealer not far from the HQ of the company I work for. One thing quickly lead to another I've ended up buying the 1200RS after a short test ride and a discussion about finance options. Id not really considered a boxer bike but the test was enough for me to realise its a bike I can happily live with and should be fun to own. I've already been looking at channel tunnel crossings for the summer and thinking about a route down to the alps and back on it.

Welcome along.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures as soon as you can get them uploaded. I have heard they are extremely comfortable bikes for doing big miles on! Enjoy planning your trips.

Hello and welcome, there's one or two wc's on the forum so a little bit of "knowledge" should be available, and there's a couple of reprobates (ahem Trixters) from your neck of the woods, so if you fancy a pre summer holiday weekend away how about the meeting at Cricceith this April. A good way to introduce yourself to boxer ownership with a gentle bimble around North Wales.
But most important of all enjoy your new machine :D

Phil - I love your understated description " with a gentle bimble around North Wales"

Last couple I went on were more like the Welsh GP's with a couple of leisurely pit stops for coffee.

And damn good fun with good company too.

Unfortunately going to have to miss this year as Mr Parry booked it on the only weekend in April when I am not free .

Sounds like a good excuse for a meet up at the Ponderosa for lunch that does.
