Very nice Mark.

Curious to know how well it stops with those small discs though :?
Having only come to bikes in the last few years I've yet to ride a classic bike. so have no idea about such things :oops: . Does it stop as well as it goes??

Rode one of these back in about 1980 Sooooooooooooooooo smooth. About the same time my neighbour had a Z1300, How on earth did we ride such naked bikes back then. I had my Yoshimura (Suzuki) GS back then as my only transport and used to ride all over the country to enter Sprints/Drag races on a Sunday morning--ooh happy days when I was young!!!!!!

Back in 77 / 78 I had a girlfriend that traded in a US spec Jubilee Bonnie for a CBX. I rode it once and even though I am 6ft I found it a stretch to reach reach the bars. I do recall that the motor was super smooth but not much else about it. The lady in question was only about 5ft 5in and riding the CBX twice bu**ered up the tendons in her forearms so she spent several weeks in plaster and was unable to ride the bike, her doctor told he to buy something smaller or risk doing permanent damage to her arms. How wide is that engine? Is the Boxer wider? :wink:

To answer your question the brakes on this beast can best be described as “Interesting”. Compared with the R1100 they are an absolute joke. You need a huge heave on the leaver to bring her to a halt especially in the rain. As the discs are just plain lumps of metal as soon as the discs get wet they just loose all of there (very Limited) bite. The thing is in the late 70’s early 80’s these were top of there class. I thought nothing about chucking the old girl into corners, scrapping the pegs/engine bars (which I have now taken off) and hurtling up to junctions before jamming on the brakes. Compared to the machines of today its like riding an old Raleigh chopper with a 100 brake lump grafted in. This old bike has served her time in a hooligan’s hands and now deservers a well earned rest. It makes a nice change to just potter about at 70 all day on this bike just taking in the scenery and watching the world go by. She’s 30 years old now and the engine is still as smooth as the day I got her. She just whistles along until you give it a handful then it screams like a jet engine. Whenever I take the bike to any local meets it always gets the same response “Oh I used to have one of them” or “Does it really have 6 cylinders”.
Can you believe it but at the last meet I was at (Lord Derby down near Odiham.) A police bike cop came up to me and stated that “Surely this isn’t a Honda as they don’t make a 6 Cylinder” he’d never even heard of the CBX…As they say “The cops look younger as you get older”………
