moved the bars and new tensioner fitted

As it says; what you've done to your bike and how it helped make it better.

moved the bars and new tensioner fitted

Postby fatnfast » Sun Oct 13, 2013 9:41 am

As its been pi**ing it down for the past 3 days I finally got round to moving the bars above the yokes. Easy job, lets hope it takes a bit of the weight of my wrists.
Also fitted the upgraded left camchain tensioner, what a difference, no more rattle on start up :D

Upgraded Cam Chain Tensioner? Mine rattles on start up too. What do I need to fix it?

As Mr P said you need the upgraded one available here:
http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/ ... r&spPage=4
You also need to click on the link to the other part that goes with it and a crush washer.
Easy job to do, theres a long winded 'merican guide here:
http://www.advrider.com/Wisdom/cam.pdf
Ignore the parts about pulling the actual injector off etc, its not needed. The only way the S differs is you need to undo the two self tappers that hold the air duct to the airbox. They are covered by the left fairing panel so you need to lift this out of the way.

Mine rattles on start up but then quietens down.
Does this only affect the left side, or does the right side need doing as well?

Normally just the left side. The tensioner on this side sits on top of the barrel, which means the oil drains from the tensioner when the engine is stopped. The right is under the barrel and therefore retains the oil.
Its very common, and although some say it does no harm, that rattle you hear is the camchain bouncing around unchecked for a few seconds.
The new tensioner has a 15mm bolt head, the old is larger.
Hope this helps :)
