I do like to keep my bikes shiny, but of course the MV is new. The R1100S (blue one) has 12.5 kmiles on it and was used for my daily commute when I lived in Pau. It does rain a lot in South West France, but it does not really get cold and there is no salt on the roads. Never seeing salt has helped it keep its looks.
The other factor that has helped is that when I arrived back in UK the dealer dropped it off of their ramp while doing the MOT. The lug connecting the rear sub frame to the engine frame sheared off, so the bike was rebuilt with lots of new parts at their expense. Then one year later we were rear ended and punted off in Edinburgh by a sales rep. The bike is like my grandfather's broom - not much of it is original.
