Little trip to the Spa classic

Last weekend saw the chance to attend the Spa classic, mate of mine was riding a TR500 Suzuki, some interesting stuff to be seen, and being able to get really close to the bikes was great; we were in the garage with one of Mr V Rossi' chief tech's, you can guess which bike was his! he actually rode a TZ350 and the TZ750, and was pretty bloody fast on them both!
the MV is fully original, never restored, the fairing has flush aero rivets and all the switches and wiring from the era as well.
the BMW's are from Beck's Motor Werkplaas in Holland, truly beautiful, they're raced by 'Boy Becks' and won the championships in500 and 750. sound awesome and were properly quick!
the event was well attended, even though the Belgian weather did it's best to dampen spirits.. at €40.00 for a three day ticket it was pretty good value, as long as you didn't buy grub in the ciircuit (it made Silverstone look cheap!) enjoy the photos..

one of the Konig bikes is a replica; the engines being built in Germany. it's 120bhp at the rear wheel on petrol and a massive 160bhp running Ethanol!
if you want to know more about the Konig and its developement, there's a very good book called Kiwi on a Konig, which is about Kim Newcombe and his season racing the bike in the 70's. quite a lot of the bikes that run Konig engines, run BMW gearbox and shaft drive.
it was a hydroplane engine originally, I worked briefly with a guy who raced them and have to say it was possibly the scariest thing I ever saw.
the neatest trick was that the expansion chambers could be lengthened and shortened according to where the 'plane' was on the circuit, the pilot (for the want of a better word) pushed a pedal to lenghten the pipes along the streight, then reduced the chamber length for better corner exit. Cagiva tried this as well, but it was banned by the FIM.
There were other BM's but I still think the Becks are by far the best turned out...

Great photos, thanks for posting! That's a tempting road trip now. I haven't been to Spa since F1 in the early 90s.
