Spokes wheels are awesome! I wish more bikes still had them.

In terms of aesthetics ,I agree, but of course the downside is extra weight and flex, not to mention cleaning them.

True, I suppose cleaning them is a right pig.

When I build cycle wheels I'm always impressed with how rigid and strong a bunch of flimsy components can be when put together.

The tensioned spoke wheel is a wonder of engineering and design in my opinion.

A nice example of them being used on a production bike. :)

Steve, do you remember those emergency wire spokes? I always fancied trying to build a wheel with those just to see what would happen. It would probably mean building a wheel and then replacing each spoke with the wire ones, but the price of the emergency spokes put me off. Yep, I'm that sad!!!!

The spoke wheel looks so much better on the 1200R, as long as they are stainless cleaning is not so bad and surely worth it.

Actually no, think thats the first I heard of them.... sounds like a bad idea though! Is it like a brake cable to replace a broken spoke?

... and if the bike at the start of the thread still looks too modern for you

So not much in the way of brakes to worry about then.

Not sure brakes would be a huge issue with that kind of power

It has "107 horses" according to the article (R1200 motor).
I think the brakes would be an issue for me!

Yikes  I thought it was a 1930's antique, haden't spotted a modern motor. But that's plain stupid in that case..............so how do you stop exactly? :?:

Beautifully executed but 107 gee gee,s in that frame with that front brake could be interesting in the least. I feel its more a fashion statement that a rider....beautiful none the less.

That's the idea - the spoke head end was sort of a hook so you could easily have it inbound or outbound and the other end had a swaged threaded end with loads of thread! - I seem to recall they were about £6 each so DTs were peanuts in comparison
