Hello peeps
Here’s Just a brief progress report. Jeeez, when is this shite weather gunna break.
Current Mileage: 700
The first service was duly done last Friday by BRM. Thankfully they didn’t need any special parts. So it was ready in a few hours and at a reasonable cost of just over £100.
They also did a recall upgrade to the ECU software, which apparently addresses issues with the ‘Anti-Knock System’ and also “Enhances”
??! the ‘Gear Shift Assist’.
So I picked the bike up from BRM and set off home. Only to discover that the Gear Shift Assist, now wasn’t working at all
. So I turned around and headed back to the shop.
The Tech and the service manager both had a look, but couldn’t find a solution or explanation as to why it now didn’t work. They even tried phoning BMW UK for advice. But unfortunately for me, the HP2S Tech expert was on holiday…bugger
.
Anyhow, I rode the bike home, just using the conventional clutch gear shifts, which really annoyed me - Not that using the clutch is difficult, no the conventional gear shift is excellent – But because I’d been so totally captivated by the brilliant Shift Assist system. I just felt a bit short changed.
Sunday came, the snow melted and the sun came out, so it was compulsory to meet the boys for a quick blast down to Fowlers Café. As I rode off on the HP2S, I tried the Shift Assist again a few times, sadly to no avail. Then, after about 15 mins, I was changing up the box and when I pulled the clutch in, the engine misfired and spluttered a few times, then cleared.
I don’t know what made me try the Shift Assist again, but when I did, it worked fine and continues to work faultlessly so far
.
As to why Shift Assist disappeared and the came back, is a mystery. But I sure did miss not having it.
Oh yes, I’ve also fitted a cute little tank bag, which came in useful for some emergency shopping at Tesco’s.
Room for a wallet, mobile and…err 6 eggs
.
