New addition

Postby markw » Wed Mar 19, 2014 7:23 pm

my 1999 R1100s has now done 129,000 miles (105,000 by me). So I thought it was time to get another R1100s to share my daily commute. Plan is to keep the new bike (2003, currently with 24,000 miles) for the "summer" and the old one for the winter.

Swap the panels and wheels - the titan/yellow is a classic colour and looks much better than plain yellow. :)

Hang on- which one is the old one???

New bike is the twin spark with yellow wheels. The old one scrubs up well and is overdue a wash. 120 miles a day all year has taken its toll with closer inspection.

Here's a question Mark, having ridden both recently how's the old one bearing up ride wise compared to its lesser mileage sibling?

That new one has to be one of the nicest bikes/colors BMW has ever built.

Congratulations!

steve

I think the old bike rides really well considering the mileage. I cant detect any movement from the swinging arm or telelever but Im sure they must be worn. The paralever bearings have been replaced a couple of times and are currently fine. The hyperpro rear shock is overdue a service as its done 80,000 miles or so and the front hyperpro was serviced last year. The bike has handled really well over the winter and is quick and sure footed in the wet. The engine is still really strong and feels quicker than the newer bike, probably due to the laser exhaust, K&N and power commander compared to the standard setup of the newer bike. I must admit I quite liked the 'softer' ride and quiet exhaust on the ride home after collecting the new bike... anyway now I've got the choice.
