Re: What’s with the log-on-to-read?
Hi Tapio
The log on to read is in place so we get a better idea of how many people are actually using the site and hopefully by creating an account to read the posts they will also then be more likely to post stuff. The effort taken to create an account and tick the "log me in automatically" check box the first time you log in, does not seem too high to me.
I hope this answers your question. If you need any further help, just ask.
Cheers,
Paul

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Ok. Got it. Thanks.
There are many ways to look at this.
Before I register to a forum, I like to browse around. How frequented is the forum? What is the tone of the members? Is the forum strictly or loosely moderated?
I believe, that if the forum is open to read (but not write) without membership, readers would be encouraged to create an account when they see how much knowledge there is here, and that you get a quick answer to a question you might have.
I tend to shy away from closed forums. They give me a sense of, either elitism (not everybody welcome), or a bunch of inbreds. Neither of these are true for this forum.
If this forum would have been closed when I found it, I wouldn’t have created an account.
But that’s just me. I understand that other people see it another way.
Last, but not least: information wants to be free!

Fair point, well made. I'll change the setting.
Thanks for your input.
