Hi everyone I'm new to the site my name is Luke. I've joined as I'm after a nice 1200s & look forward to riding one. They seem to be in short supply as I cannot find one on the Internet. Does anyone here know of any available, I'm in Leicestershire.

Hi Luke
Not a good time of year to buy a 12s especially as there are so few in the U.K.
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/bmw_r_1200_sThere's only one advertised on Autotrader, but they do come up now and again, there was a glut for sale when the R1200Rs was released and prices took a bit of a knock down but seem to have stabilised now. It is a bit of an oddball being a so-called sports bike but imho it means that most buyers now are probably enthusiasts and they will keep there bike for a while, it is a great machine and a real world bike that can hustle along on open roads whether scratching or touring, in fact scratching with the sport panniers on is wonderful
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... obcid=soc3Good luck with your search and there's a wealth of info on here

The two on eBay seem a little rough around the edges & the milege is a little high.

Patience will pay off but expect to pay a decent premium the lower the mileage/better condition, they are out there but as I've already pointed out with such a low amount registered now the right one will take a bit of looking for.

The paint on the front of the engine always peels and blisteres, but generally they keep looking good

Don't be put off by miles - 31k is ok if looked after. Mine has done 52K and runs perfectly - it has a full service history.
Spend a few quid on stainless fasteners, repaint the front cover and it will look very tidy
Headers polish up nicely - but will require regular attention...............

That mileage is nothing!
There aren't that many of these bikes about, and they are all 10 years or more old.... so most will have a few rough bits.
Why not buy a rough looking one and see if you like it? Sell on if not, spend to mint it up if you do!
So long as they have had regular servicing, they will do high mileages without too many problems. Front covers, brakes and fork legs seem to go tatty on many of these.
My minter might be up for grabs when I find the right HP2 Sport

Or start with an R11S which is a brilliant bike too (slower and heavier but more of an allrounder with better luggage and passenger comfort) and then trade up once gotten used to?

I've considered an 1100s but they cost too much now, the 1200 has always been a bike I've wanted.

You have PM Luke.
I always said I would never sell mine, but I fancy a KTM! After 9 years with mine, I am getting itchy feet.
