R1200S Luggage

Hi, planning a trip to France/Germany next year and looking at what luggage options are out there.
Any suggestions?

I like the bagster tank cover with a choice of tank bags and the Ventura tail pack frame system

Travelling solo?

I use a 35 litre drybag on the pillion seat and a Kriega US-10 on the tank for valuables and documents. Works well, does not add any width to the bike and has more than enough space for a week or so away.

The BMW luggage looks good, but is expensive and doesn't come up second hand very often.

Ventura stuff is good, I have some bags that are 14yrs old and still going strong.

As far as tank mounted luggage goes, I really rate the Givi tank lock system.

I have done a couple of long trips, tail pack with a cargo net over the top sat on a rack, and an Aldi water proof stuffa bag bungied to the pillion seat. Works well and much cheeper that BM's luggage.
Helli bars a must for long trips!!

I use one of these Bags Connection tail packs. It's been to Spain twice, Scotland a few times and once to Wales. I always use the waterproof liner bag, and that keeps everything bone dry through the heaviest rain.

In fact, I don't bother with a suitcase now, I just take the bag even when not on the bike.

The only caution is that you need to take care to make sure the securing strap buckles can't touch the paintwork. I always put a couple of strips of insulating tape under where the buckles are (even though the buckle have protective leather bits), just to be sure, and I've never had a problem.
